US House passes bill to censor Russian propaganda sites

WARNING: US House passes bill to censor Russian propaganda sites. War on “fake news” begins!

Section 501 calls for the US government to "counter active measures by Russia to exert covert influence."
First it’s the war of words. Then it’s a shooting war. This is how it all begins.

It is strikingly curious, and hypocritical, that the neo-liberal left and neocon right, continuously talk about alt-right fascism seeping into American society, are now the ones actively creating a US fascist state… where “books are burned” and any dissenting voices will be considered Kremlin stooges. Smoke and mirrors.

The Duran has reported extensively on the “fake news” war that was conjured up by Soros, Clinton and the main stream media after a surprising election victory by Donald Trump.
–the liberal mainstream media failed to practice ethical journalism and it is abhorrent for them to admit this. Instead, they have decided to double-down on the failed strategy of delegitimizing anyone who disagrees with them. No one should be surprised about the mainstream’s sudden embrace of the “fake news” meme. This embrace is a form of shameless hypocrisy.

The Washington Post has been at the forefront of disseminating the “fake news” narrative with its ridiculous, poorly sourcedPropOrNot “fake news” list. A group of shadowy “journalists and scientists” who have discovered that the Kremlin is controlling 200 websites in an effort to seed dissent within American society.

The PropOrNot group remains anonymous, as cowards usually do, but many sources believe some sort of George Soros-Ukraine neo-nazi connection to be behind the anonymous hucksters enjoying their 15 minutes of fame.

Yes, the WashPost is saying: some people who we won't identify, using methodologies we won't describe, created This Important Blacklist!

Other media proxies have also chimed in on the “fake news” charade including the LA Times with it’s associate professor Melissa “Mish” Zimdars’ “fake news” list.

As the world collectively laughs in disgust at the entire “fake news” lie being dragged out before us, the US House is quietly acting to bring mass censorship to America and the Internet, in response to “Russia influence” over the media.
On November 30, one week after the Washington Post launched its witch hunt against “Russian propaganda fake news“, with 390 votes for, the House quietly passed “H.R. 6393, Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017“, sponsored by California Republican Devin Nunes (whose third largest donor in 2016 is Google parent Alphabet, Inc), a bill which deals with a number of intelligence-related issues, including Russian propaganda, or what the government calls propaganda, and hints at a potential crackdown on “offenders.”

The true fascists are tearing off their masks, and have taken their first steps towards removing free speech and freedom of expression.

The Duran has chronicled Google’s active involvement in pushing the “fake news” agenda, here…”Book burning for a digital age. Google CEO talks about ‘fake news’ censorshipand here…”Google moves to censor news sites that do not comply with neo-liberal standards.
The Duran has also published extensive real news pushback in response to the censorship about to be passed into American law, with the potential to block any and all websites that do not faithfully toe the US government line…

This is extremely serious, and very dangerous news. Zerohedge reports
A quick skim of the bill reveals “Title V—Matters relating to foreign countries”, whose Section 501 calls for the government to “counter active measures by Russia to exert covert influence … carried out in  coordination with, or at the behest of, political leaders or the security services of the Russian Federation and the role of the Russian Federation has been hidden or not acknowledged publicly.”
Those interested in the bill can go here, “H.R. 6393: Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 and here to read more details on what may soon proclaim much of the internet to be criminal “Russian propaganda”.
Section 501 of the bill lists the following definitions of media manipulation:
  • Establishment or funding of a front group.
  • Covert broadcasting.
  • Media manipulation.
  • Disinformation and forgeries.
  • Funding agents of influence.
  • Incitement and offensive counterintelligence.
  • Assassinations.
  • Terrorist acts
Zerohedge continues…

As ActivistPost correctly notesit is easy to see how this law, if passed by the Senate and signed by the president, could be used to target, threaten, or eliminate so-called “fake news” websites, a list which has been used to arbitrarily define any website, or blog, that does not share the mainstream media’s proclivity to serve as the Public Relations arm of a given administration.
Curiously, the bill which was passed on November 30, was introduced on November 22, two days before the Washington Post published its Nov. 24 article citing “experts” who claim Russian propaganda helped Donald Trump get elected.
PropOrNot has pushed a conspiratorial thesis, without any actual proof, that the listed websites have been either used directly or covertly by the Russians to spread propaganda.
While the bill passed the House with a sweeping majority, it is unknown if and when the bill will work its way through the Senate and be passed into law, although one would think that it has far higher chances of passing under president Obama than the President-Elect. It is also unclear if it will be used to shut down websites anonymously characterized as “useful idiots” or subversive elements used in disseminating supposed Russian propaganda.
