Heatwave in Northern Siberia

If you want confirmation that things are as bad as they seem to be in the Arctic, this seems to provide some confirmation.

High Noon in the Arctic

This message came through from Harold H. Hensel via Facebook.

Thinking this was a little too important to leave it at that I decided to do a little more digging

Here is Harold's message

Temperature anomaly 04 26 2016

I wasn't going to post this unless it got into the red and above freezing. Well, it got into the red. Getting above freezing could not happen in a worse place. It is in the Laptev Sea. Very high concentrations of methane hydrates are here

This map from Climate Reanalyzer shows temperatures are the same as far south as Ottawa, Canada as they are at the North Pole

Temperatures in the Canadian capital are 0 degrees Celcius (32F)

And the temperatures in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland are plus 2 degrees Celcius

As much our interest is in northern Siberia, in particular, the Laptev Sea, I decided to check reports on Arctic map (an excellent resource for weather conditions in this part of the world)

I checked on three points -

- Pevek in the East Siberian Sea (the northernmost city in Russia)
- Khatanga, in the Talmyr Peninsula
- Tiksi on the Laptev Sea

  2. Correction. The temperature in Khatanga, Russia rose 30 degrees F above normal (avg. 23F High vs, 54F High{ on Tues. 4/26. Khatanga is 418 miles due north of that Arctic Circle. Bad, but not the hellish 79F stated.http://www.timeanddate.com/weather/russia/khatanga/historic
